Dr. Cheema grew up in Kitimat, British Columbia. She earned a B.Sc. in Mathematics, a Master’s in Health Administration, and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of British Columbia. In 2008, she moved to Calgary for her family medicine residency and spent over a decade practicing care of the elderly. In 2024, she became certified in menopause care and founded Mpower to provide accessible, evidence-based support for menopausal women.
Her expertise includes providing relief of menopausal symptoms through lifestyle-based strategies, such as strength training and nutrition, as well as evidence-based medicine including menopausal hormone therapy. She is passionate about promoting healthy aging and active living. In her free time, she enjoys strength training, dancing, and hiking. She is always up for a walk to get some coffee or a road trip to the mountains.
Dr. Sawatsky earned her medical degree from the University of Calgary after completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. She began practicing family medicine in 2007 and was awarded a Fellowship from the College of Family Physicians in 2018 for her outstanding contributions to healthcare. Recognizing the lack of evidence-based menopause care, she became certified in menopause treatment the same year.
She has also provided medical aid in Sudan, India, and Afghanistan, demonstrating a deep commitment to communities with limited healthcare access. Currently, Dr. Sawatsky practices at the NE Women’s Clinic, the Vulva Clinic, and Rockyview Hospital’s labour and delivery unit. When she is not working, Dr. Sawatsky likes to hang out with her family and enjoy mountain activities, preferably both at the same time.
